Emily Surman

Educator

Certified 6-12 Social Studies teacher, currently teaching an Ancient Civilizations course to New Jersey 6th Graders. She studied history and education at American University in Washington, DC and King's College London in London, England. Emily's goal as an educator is to empower students through inquiry and to encourage perspective-taking through source analysis. In addition to formal classroom experience, Emily has developed and implemented learning experiences for students in various museum settings, including the National Museum of American History in Washington, DC and Washington's Headquarters in Morristown, NJ. She believes that these tangible learning experiences enhance students' love for learning. Emily is excited to serve on the Global Teacher Committee for the upcoming launch of the Ages of Globalization course.
