David Homa
Educator
David Homa is an educator of 30 years at Los Gatos High School and a Professor of Anthropology at West Valley College. David has taught a wide variety of courses including Social Entrepreneurship, Economics, Government, and Anthropology. He has been a member of the American Anthropological Association for over 25 years, often presenting at annual conferences about his work on global education. Over the past decade David has created a unique classroom environment by teaching his classes via Zoom from other parts of the world. He has taught from the Kakuma Refugee camp in northern Kenya, India, France, Croatia, North Macedonia, Iraq, Eswatini, South Africa, Moldova, and Ukraine among other global locations. Â
David is part of a research team at Stanford’s Virtual Human Interaction Lab looking at the use of virtual reality headsets in the classroom. The study is focusing on the impact of using VR for gaining a deeper understanding of places in the world and the potential for developing greater empathy for others. David helped produce education content for the television show Crash Test World with host Kari Byron of MythBusters. He has developed curriculum for Doha Debates giving high school students the opportunity to better understand global issues.
